All Scripture Is Inspired of God

2 Timothy 3:16-1716Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.”

In this word, “every scripture” includes not only the Old Testament, the 39 books, but also the New Testament, the 27 books. In what Jesus said below also,

John 5:39 “Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me.”

we should not think of “the Scriptures” as referring only to the Old Testament, but to “all Scripture,” including the New Testament as well. The reason is that, just like the books of the Old Testament, the books of the New Testament would also be written by men of God through the same one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11, Ephesians 4:4). Therefore, Jesus said the following to His disciples:

John 15:26-2726 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me: 27 and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.”

Therefore, today we must know and believe that the Old Testament and the New Testament, that is, “all Scripture,” are books that “bear witness only to Jesus.” Although the books of the Old Testament and the New Testament were written at different times and by different writers, the reason they could all bear witness only to our Lord Jesus Christ is, as stated above, that they were borne witness to by the same Spirit of truth (1 John 5:7); in other words, this was possible because “all Scripture was written by the inspiration of God.”

Exodus 4:10-1210 And Moses said unto Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And Jehovah said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? is it not I, Jehovah? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak.”

Exodus 34:27 “And Jehovah said unto Moses, Write thou these words...”

Acts 28:25 “...Well spake the Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet...”

Acts 1:16 “Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David...”

Luke 24:44 “And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.”

Likewise, the disciples of Jesus also spoke of salvation in the name of Jesus by the Holy Spirit, and by the Holy Spirit they recorded the testimony of Jesus in writing.

Matthew 10:19-2019 But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.”

Acts 4:8-108 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders, 9 if we this day are examined concerning a good deed done to an impotent man, by what means this man is made whole; 10 be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.”

Revelation 1:10-1110 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet 11 saying, What thou seest, write in a book and send it to the seven churches: unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamum, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.”

For this reason, the chief priests, rulers, elders, and scribes of that time even marveled when they heard the disciples of Jesus, who had not studied, speaking boldly.

Acts 4:13 “Now when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled...”

Later, Peter made it known that Scripture did not come from the will of man, but that men spoke from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20-2120 knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation. 21 For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.”

Therefore, Peter also made known that the letters written by Paul, who had once persecuted those who called on the name of Jesus but later was converted, were Scripture as well.

2 Peter 3:15-1615 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you; 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

Thus, Peter said that Paul’s letters were written “according to the wisdom given to him,” and therefore he warned that people must not twist his letters, just as they twist the other Scriptures. The apostle Paul himself also made known the gospel he preached as follows:

Galatians 1:11-1211 For I make known to you, brethren, as touching the gospel which was preached by me, that it is not after man. 12 For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came to me through revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Yes. The letters of the apostle Paul were not received from man, nor were they taught by man, but were spoken according to the revelation of Jesus Christ, that is, what he received from Jesus. Therefore, today we also must surely know that there is no other gospel apart from the words of the 66 books of the Bible, which bear witness only to Jesus.

Galatians 1:7-97 which is not another gospel: only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. 9 As we have said before, so say I now again, If any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema.”

Revelation 22:18-1918 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book: 19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.”

Therefore, apart from the words of the 66 books of the Bible, we must never tolerate even a little leaven (Matthew 16:5-12) (1 John 4:5-6, John 8:47). We must all receive benefit and blessing by reading, hearing, and keeping only the pure and sincere word just as it is written (Psalm 1:1-3).

1 Corinthians 5:6-86 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?... 8 wherefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Deuteronomy 32:45-4745 And Moses... 46 said unto them, Set your heart unto all the words which I testify unto you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law. 47 For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.”

Revelation 1:2-32 who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, even of all things that he saw. 3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Amen.
