Jesus Christ Is the Wisdom of God

1 Corinthians 1:24 “but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

That is right. To all of us, Jesus Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Long ago, Daniel confessed that wisdom and power belong to God:

Daniel 2:20 “Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.”

The reason we can testify that this wisdom and power, which belong only to God (Job 12:13), are Jesus Christ is that Jesus is God. And because this wisdom of God is completely different from the wisdom of the world, it cannot be obtained from this world or through man. It can be obtained only by fearing God.

Job 28:12-2812But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? 13Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living. 14The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me. 15It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. 16It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire. 17Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. 18No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies. 19The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold. 20Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding? 21Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens. 22Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears. 23God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof. 24For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven; 25To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure. 26When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder; 27Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out. 28And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.

Psalm 111:10The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all they that do his commandments: His praise endureth for ever.”

Proverbs 9:10The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Micah 6:9 “The voice of Jehovah crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom will see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.”

Since the wisdom of God has been testified by the Spirit of truth to be Jesus Christ, we should now understand the passages above to mean that fearing Jesus and fearing the name of Jesus is the way for us to obtain the perfect wisdom of God. The apostle Paul also proclaimed Jesus Christ, the wisdom of God, as follows:

1 Corinthians 2:6-86We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought: 7but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, even the wisdom that hath been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory: 8which none of the rulers of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

That is right. The wisdom of God is not the wisdom of this world, nor is it the wisdom of the rulers of this world who will pass away. In other words, it is not human wisdom. God foreordained this wisdom before the ages, kept it hidden in a mystery, and then revealed it. That wisdom of God is none other than Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-3, 14, 17-181In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. 14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Therefore, we must fear Jesus, who is the wisdom of God. As we saw above, this is the beginning of wisdom. In this wisdom are contained all good things. It cannot be compared with anything valuable in this world, and above all, it gives us life.

Proverbs 3:13-2413Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, And the man that getteth understanding. 14For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, And the profit thereof than fine gold. 15She is more precious than rubies: And none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her. 16Length of days is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. 17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. 18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: And happy is every one that retaineth her. 19Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding he established the heavens. 20By his knowledge the depths were broken up, And the skies drop down the dew. 21My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22So shall they be life unto thy soul, And grace to thy neck. 23Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, And thy foot shall not stumble. 24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: Yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

So we can see that when Solomon asked for wisdom, God also gave him all the other good things he had not asked for.

1 Kings 3:11-1311And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern justice; 12behold, I have done according to thy word: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee, all thy days.”

Amen. Truly, in Jesus Christ, who is the wisdom of God, are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:2-32that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even Christ, 3in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

Therefore, now all of us must fear Jesus and listen to the words of Jesus. When we humbly listen to the words of Jesus, we will lack no good thing (Ps. 34:9-10), and as sheep belonging to Jesus, we will rise again unto eternal life.

John 10:3-53To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4When he hath put forth all his own, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

John 5:24-2524Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. 25Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.

But if one does not listen, then that person does not fear God and cannot belong to God.

John 8:42-4742Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me. 43Why do ye not understand my speech? Even because ye cannot hear my word. 44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. 45But because I say the truth, ye believe me not. 46Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I say truth, why do ye not believe me? 47He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Isaiah 48:18-1918Oh that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: 19thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the grains thereof: his name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.”

Therefore, to both Jews and Greeks — that is, to all of us — only Jesus Christ must be the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:17-1817For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void. 18For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God.

Amen.
