Nothing Shall Be Impossible to Him That Believeth!

Mark 9:23 “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

As the passage above says, to those who believe in Jesus, nothing will be impossible. This is because Jesus is the Almighty One, for whom all things are possible.

Job 42:1-21Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

In this way, because all things are possible with Jesus, those who believe in Jesus also come to have nothing impossible to them. Therefore, the apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Yes. If we have faith in Jesus, we can do all things... However, at this point, we need to think about what it means that “we can do all things.” Some people may vaguely understand this word in whatever way they personally desire. But those who love and believe in Jesus will first connect this word with keeping the words of Jesus. This is because many people think it is difficult to keep the word of God written in the Bible. And when we look at the Bible, we can see that we today are not the only ones who have felt that following the word of God is difficult.

John 6:55-6155For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

As this passage says, Jesus said that if one eats His flesh and drinks His blood—in other words, if one lives according to the words of Jesus—he “shall live for ever.” Yet at that time, many of His disciples considered this word difficult, and many of them left Jesus, leaving only the twelve disciples with Him. Perhaps, as in the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes, when Jesus fed five thousand people with five barley loaves and two small fishes (John 6:9-13), if Jesus had continued to fill their stomachs by miracles while they did nothing, they would not have left Him (John 6:24-27). But when the time came for them to believe that Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:35) and to keep His word, they said, “This is an hard saying; who can hear it?” and left Him. Not only this, but also:

Matthew 19:20-2220The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.”

The rich young man, who had kept all the commandments of the law, heard the words of Jesus promising him treasure in heaven, yet he went away sorrowful and did not follow Jesus. This was because he regarded the many possessions he had in this world as more important than the treasure in heaven. Therefore, Jesus said the following to those who would follow Him:

Luke 14:33 “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”

In this passage, “all that he hath” does not necessarily refer only to material possessions, but to everything that is exalted above the word of God, as the following passage says.

2 Corinthians 10:5-65Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Luke 9:23-2423And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”

Therefore, in a sense, from the human point of view, it may be natural that many people feel that following the words of Jesus is difficult... However, according to the words of Jesus mentioned earlier, if we have faith, it is possible.

Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.”

Matthew 13:45-4645Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”

As these passages say, if people discovered a treasure in a field that was greater than all their possessions, and if they found a pearl more precious than the pearls they already had, then they would gladly sell all they possessed and buy something more precious than what they had, with great joy.

The Bible says that in Christ, the mystery of God, are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:2-3). In other words, our most precious treasure—our “everything”—is none other than “Jesus Christ” (Psalm 19:7-10, Proverbs 3:13-15). Therefore, if people believe that the words of Jesus are greater and more honorable than the food of this world and the riches of this world, then it is only natural that they would willingly give up everything in order to gain Jesus. The reason they do not regard this as hard or difficult is that they have faith, by which they treasure Jesus above all.

Here we come to realize the fact that “we do not fail to obey because the word of God is difficult; rather, we fail to obey because we lack faith.” If we do not know this truth, we may fail to realize that we lack faith and wrongly think that we cannot obey because the word of God is hard and difficult. But the Bible clearly tells us that we fail to obey because we do not have faith. Therefore, concerning the reason the Israelites in the wilderness could not enter into rest, the Bible records the following:

Hebrews 3:18-1918And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Therefore, the Israelites in the wilderness could not enter into the rest of God because they could not obey, having no faith. The Scriptures also teach that if we believe in Jesus and love Him, we can keep His word.

1 John 5:3-43For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

John 14:23-2423Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.”

Therefore, if we obey little, we must know that it is because our faith is little. So that our faith may grow into great faith (Matthew 8:5-10) and increase (2 Thessalonians 1:3), we must pray to Jesus in the name of Jesus, and we must listen more carefully to the words of Jesus. The reason is that our faith comes only from the word of Jesus.

Mark 9:23-2423Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And because faith, even when it is present, can depart at any time (2 Timothy 4:1, 1 Timothy 6:10), it is important that we walk closely with the words of Jesus every day so that faith does not depart from us.

Deuteronomy 30:11, 1411For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. 14But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.”

Amen.
