Jesus, My King and Our King Once Again!
Jesus, My King and Our King Once Again!
In the days of the prophet Samuel, the people of Israel, despite Samuel’s opposition, wanted to make a man their king, just like the other nations (1 Samuel 8). And in the end, the result of making a man their king appeared in the destruction of Israel: the destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel <2 Kings 17-18> and the destruction of the southern kingdom of Judah <2 Kings 24-25, 2 Chronicles 36>.
In order to save Israel, God said through many prophets, “Return unto Me again, and you shall live.” But the people of Israel did not listen to the words of the prophets spoken by the Word of God, nor did they turn back, and so they were destroyed (2 Kings 17:13-14, Deuteronomy 5:32-33, Nehemiah 9:29).
After that, for the salvation of Israel and all mankind, Jesus, the King of kings, came to this earth. But rather than recognizing Him as King, people despised Him and crucified Him (Isaiah 9:6, John 12:13, Matthew 27:35-37, 41-42).
However, Jesus rose again (Acts 1:3), ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-10), and promised that He would soon come again into this world (Acts 1:11). At that time, unlike His first coming, He said that He would come as the King of kings, having authority to judge (Matthew 16:27, Revelation 22:10-12).
We are waiting for this Jesus. Satan, the devil, and demons try to prevent us from making Jesus our King in this world. They deceive people in many different ways: through tribulation and the fear of death, through the pleasures and enjoyments of this world, through the strange and fascinating things of this world, through food, drink, and riches, through authority, through the wisdom and knowledge of this world, and through many other things (Matthew 24:24, 1 Timothy 4:1, Revelation 12:9). They deceive us as though this world were everything.
Satan, the devil, and demons say that this world must be the center, and that man must be the center. But the end of such things is nothing but destruction, just as it was for the people of Israel in the past (Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death).
Jesus, the King of kings, has given us new life through the cross (2 Corinthians 5:15-17). Not only has He prepared for us the kingdom of heaven, where there will be no more tears, no more death, no more sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4, John 14:2-3), but He has also promised eternal life (Matthew 19:29). He said that the glory given to us cannot even be compared with the things of this world (Romans 8:18).
Therefore, our choice is now clear! Our life on this earth is now like the life of strangers and pilgrims (Hebrews 11:13-16). Because we are strangers and pilgrims, although our bodies are here, our hearts are already with Jesus our King, and we long only for that kingdom where Jesus, the King of kings, rules with true righteousness and truth (2 Peter 3:11-13). To enter that kingdom is our only hope and expectation! Therefore, no matter how others may live, it is right for us to call upon and depend on the name of Jesus, our King (Colossians 3:17), to read the Scriptures with an eager heart (Acts 17:11, Psalm 1:1-3), and to joyfully live according to that Word (Psalm 110:3). This is because our citizenship is in that kingdom of heaven where Jesus reigns (Philippians 3:20)!
Amen. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20)
Jesus as my King! As our King!
